The following policies have been established over the years only because too many patients were abusing the “honour system” we started with.
Private consult (cosmetic) no show/late rescheduling fee policy:
The private consultation fee is non-refundable after booking. If you don’t show up for your appointment or need to reschedule last minute, you will need to pay for another consultation.
- More than 2 weeks notice: no rescheduling fee
- Less than 2 weeks notice: $200 to reschedule another appointment (can be applied to a future operation performed under general anesthetic)
- Less than 48 hours notice: $200 to reschedule another appointment (can be applied to a future operation performed under general anesthetic if a physician’s note of documented illness is provided)
* If you are unreasonably late for your scheduled appointment and cannot be seen by Dr. McInnes, a full late-cancellation fee will apply. Dr. McInnes will usually book 30-60 minutes of time for a private consultation and therefore late arrivals are difficult to fit back into the day.
* Please note, if you are sick (cold, flu, COVID, etc.), this must be disclosed to our office staff and for everyone’s safety, you will not be permitted into the office. For certain consultations, you can potentially convert your appointment to virtual to avoid the above listed fees if we are given at least 48 hours’ notice. You may need to email our office photos (e.g. of your abdomen) to make this appointment possible. If a virtual appointment is not possible for some reason, the above fees will apply.
* No show fees apply to virtual consultations.
MSP no show/late cancellation fee policy:
We require a minimum of 48 hours notice to cancel/reschedule an appointment without a “no-show/late cancellation” fee.
If you miss an MSP office/hospital consultation appointment, the following will be required in order to reschedule:
- $100 (new consult)
- $50 (for a follow up appointment)
* Please note, if you are sick (cold, flu, COVID, etc.), this must be disclosed to our office staff and for everyone’s safety, you will not be permitted into the office or hospital. You can potentially convert your appointment to a virtual or phone appointment to avoid the above listed fees if we are given 48 hours’ notice.
* Your full payment will be required prior to rescheduling another appointment.
* No show fees apply to virtual consultations.
* Patients writing down the wrong appointment date/time does not absolve them of a no-show fee.
* If you are unreasonably late for your scheduled appointment and cannot be seen by Dr. McInnes, a full fee will apply.
* If there are multiple no-shows, the patient-physician relationship may be terminated due to lack of continuity of care.
* Dr. McInnes routinely extends his limited office/clinic days (because most days he’s operating!) for the benefit of his patients (many of whom have complex surgical problems and take extra-time). As such, it’s not uncommon for him to run a bit behind schedule (like most surgeons). In particular, there is very limited access to the hospital clinic each week (where he needs nursing/x-ray assistance) and therefore these clinics almost always run late. Dr. McInnes also takes regional emergency call (for all of New Westminster, Port Moody, Coquitlam, Port-Coquitlam, Surrey, and White Rock) and therefore the volume of acutely injured patients is high and unpredictable, yet they all need to be seen and treated urgently. Your hospital “appointment time” is a rough estimate only, and often varies by 1 - 2.5 hours. Please note, this is not out of disrespect for your time and Dr. McInnes would prefer to reduce the volume of acutely injured patients seen, if it were somehow possible. Our apologies in advance!
